John Montfort Finney (b. 1944) was graduated from the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, Washington, in 1967. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1969 and 1971, respectively. After service on the Washington State University faculty, he returned to the University of Puget Sound in 1976 as Registrar and Director of Institutional Research, in which capacity he served until 1989.
